SLG Publishing to release Memories of Taiwan Anthology Graphic Novel

August 3 2026, (San Jose, CA) —
SLG Publishing announced the upcoming release of Memories of Taiwan: A Comic Anthology, a 266-page collection of true, autobiographical comics from nineteen artists and writers who left home and made Taiwan their own. Edited by Ray Hecht, the book gathers the complete run of the acclaimed self-published series Visions of Taiwan (Issues #1–4) into a single volume for the first time.
The anthology brings together contributors from the United States, Canada, Northern Ireland, Honduras,
Colombia, South Africa, Italy, Malaysia, and Indonesia, each rendering their own corner of Taiwanese life in a distinct visual style — from woodcut printmaking to digital illustration to loose autobiographical sketch comics. Stories inside range from a first scooter license gone wrong and a solo move across the world, to Ghost Month superstitions, tomb-sweeping traditions, night markets, dragon boat festivals, and the everyday work of building a family and a home far from where it started.
"Sometimes the best way to capture the soul of the place is with the outsider's perspective," said editor Ray Hecht. "Taiwan has an uncertain future, and it feels like the world has become an uncertain place these days. Memories of Taiwan seeks to create a record of what it was like at this time in history — not in a big picture political sense, but an exploration of the everyday lives of the people who have chosen to make it their home."
SLG Publishing president Dan Vado felt that Memories of Taiwan spoke to the kind of stories he wanted to help people tell “You hear the name of the island all the time, but I would guess that most people could not find Taiwan on a map. Hopefully this book will get people to think about Taiwan as a real place with its own culture and not just some place they hear about on the news.” Vado added that the Kickstarter campaign is designed to raise awareness, reach a wider audience and generate revenue to fund a wider promotional campaign. “I feel like Memories of Taiwan is going to be an important book coming at a key time in our history and getting these stories out will be an ongoing project.”
Contributors include Ray Hecht, Bronwen Shelwell (cover artist), Fabienne Good, Erique Chong, Jon Renzella, Patty Hogan, Todd Allen Williams, Joel Fremming, Roelien Immelman, Stefano Misesti, Angela Sauceda, Kim Glidden, Andrew Quartermain, Daniel Martinez Sierra, Kristin Foss, Paulina Olejnik, Thai Martin, Daniel C. Moore, and Royce Widjaya.
